Born in the deep outskirts of Mexico City, brothers Kacho and Mongo Gama grew up playing marimba alongside their father, Batuco, at local events and street markets. As teenagers they rebelled, diving into punk, rockabilly, and ska — but eventually came full circle, bringing the marimba back to center stage and fusing it with every sound that shaped them.

The result is something that shouldn't exist but absolutely does: garage-cumbia-marimba-punk. The only band of its kind in the world.

Now a five-piece with full Pan-Latino representation — conga, percussion, güiro, drums, guitar, bass, and marimba — Son Rompe Pera delivers sweaty, joyful live shows built on modern interpretations of Mexican, Peruvian, and Colombian classics alongside their own originals. Their debut album Batuco is named after their late father and everything he passed down.

From the street markets of Mexico City to forty-plus festival dates in Chile, collaborations with Café Tacvba and Chico Trujillo, and stages across the Americas — Son Rompe Pera connects tradition to the future, one marimba hit at a time.

Their new album arrives Fall 2026 on Mixto Records.
